About the work

‘Shroud’ exposes an imagined corner of suburbia held in suspended animation. Behind development site hoarding, a tree has been netted to prevent birds nesting, in readiness for its felling, and a house awaits demolition. A gateway to the past, or an alternative future, has been boarded up.

However, progress has stalled and the hoarding discoloured with time. Paint is deployed to conceal and control; bright patches show where graffiti has been covered up and double yellow lines look recently refreshed. What lies ahead is unknown, but there will be no deviation from the defined route.
